Welcome to Forgotten Barrel

Whether you are new to wine tasting or a seasoned connoisseur, you will enjoy your tasting experience at Forgotten Barrel Winery. Our friendly Wine Servers are excited to introduce you to the wines we craft, and make suggestions suited to your taste. Wine is a personal experience and we believe that only you can be the judge of what you like!

While at the winery, we encourage you to take a tour and see first-hand how Forgotten Barrel wines are made. Get a behind-the-scenes look at a working winery, and taste straight out of a cask or wine barrel in our authentic Barrel Room. With our open-beamed ceilings and large tasting counters, Forgotten Barrel is the perfect place for a day trip with a loved one or a gathering with friends and family.

Tastings & Tours

We offer our guests a walking tour of our winery and working vineyards. This gives our visitors a chance to learn about the history of our winery, our viticulture practices, and the wine making process. Forgotten Barrel is known for hosting the most knowledgeable and behind the scenes wine tours at our facility. Our highly knowledgeable tour guides will provide a fun, educational experience for all ages.

Following the tour guests are encouraged to visit our tasting room to experience our extensive menu of wines. Whether you are a passionate wine enthusiast, or are new to wine in general, we offer a variety of fun ways for our guests to enjoy a unique Escondido wine tasting experience. We invite you to come see for yourself! There’s plenty of room and we can’t wait to serve you!

Weddings & Events

Perfect for winery wedding ceremonies, our outdoor vineyard lawn offers an amazing landscape view overlooking our vineyards.  For your reception, we have several beautiful sites to choose from. Our tri-level outdoor vineyard terrace provides a awe-inspiring view as you dine amongst the vines! Our new Courtyard is perfect for your cocktail hour or outdoor reception as you look out at vineyards. The barrel room, provides the perfect backdrop for an authentic wine country wedding.

We are currently available for small events of 50 people or less.  Please contact us at the number or email below if you would like to book your special event at the winery.

Directions

Our winery and tasting room are located in a residential area of Escondido off I-15. Please be courteous of our neighbors, obey the speed limit and park in the winery parking lot.

From I-15 North
Take Exit 30 for 9th Ave/Auto Parkway. Left on W 9th Ave. Right on S Upas St. then right onto W 15th Ave. We are on the right.  Look for our sign.

From I-15 South
Exit 30 for 9th Ave/Auto Parkway. Right on W 9th Ave. Right on S Upas St. then right onto W 15th Ave. We are on the right.  Look for our sign.

 

Forgotten Barrel now occupies the former Ferrara Winery, which was designated a California historic point of interest in the late 1970’s and a historic site by the city of Escondido in 1989.  The winery, was established in 1886 as one of San Diego county and Southern California’s first vineyards.  The winery was purchased in 1928 by George Ferrara, banking on the repeal of prohibition by President Roosevelt. 

The winery reopened in 1932-33 with the passage of the 21st amendment.   During the next 75 years, Ferrara Winery grew to prominence in the California wine industry.  It was operated by 3 generations until 2010.  Forgotten Barrel restored the historic property and opened the tasting room in 2017 and will continue to tell the story of the Ferrara family and the history of this amazing California landmark.
